I was mindlessly walking around Target the other day when I stumbled upon the holiday isle. It was a flooding sea of red and pink. Chocolates, overpriced teddy bears, and flowers, it looked like Cupid himself threw up in there. Ah Valentine’s Day, yet another reminder that I’m single. “At least I won’t have to spend money on a gift or suffocate in a tight dress for the evening! No instead I can stay home and drink wine while I cuddle with my puppy!” (I tell myself in an attempt to feel better). In all seriousness, V-Day is a great celebration of love! But if you’re a strong, independent, boss woman who doesn’t need no man, like me then you know that the real holiday is February 13th, AKA Galentine’s Day! Here’s how to throw the best Galentine’s party for you and all of your best single girlfriends!
1. Invites
You can’t throw a party without an invite can you? There are tons of free apps out there you can use to make one. I used the Over app. Make sure it’s both informative and cute!
2. Decorations
Being that I am a college girl on a tight budget I wanted to make sure
I could keep the spending costs as low as possible. The Dollar store, Target, and Walmart will be your best friends. I found the cutest letter balloons to spell out “GALS” for only $1.40 each at Target! I also found the wine glasses, heart headbands, and table cloths, all at the Dollar store. Talk about deals!! Including the food and decorations, I only spent about $60-$70 on the party.
3. Food
Okay we all know the best part of a party is the food! Whether you want to cook a whole meal or order takeout, the choice is yours! I chose to stick to mostly finger foods and desserts-and OF COURSE, you can’t forget the wine! My favorite treat was the Chocolate covered strawberries (a V-Day favorite for many woman, hint hint wink wink!). You can prep them beforehand or you can turn it into a fun activity and make them all together!
4. Activities
As fun as stuffing your face with desserts sounds, you’re going to need some other stuff for your guests to do. A few ideas include binge-watching Rom-Coms, manicures, and face masks. A great activity you can do is ask all your gals to write encouraging messages on a few sticky notes. Once they are done you can stick them all onto a mirror in the shape of a heart. Each person can stand in the middle and look at their reflections while being surrounded by these positive affirmations. This activity will leave your friends feeling super empowered and beautiful. It also makes for a very cute Instagram photo-op!
If you’re single this Valentine’s Day, don’t stay at home and beat yourself up about it. This day is a celebration of love, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be in a romantic way! Self-love and love from your family and friends is SO important. So gather up your single friends and make the most out of it!
