  • As of Friday, March 20, 2020 the total number of Coronavirus cases worldwide has reached 254,801. There are now 432 cases of the coronavirus in Florida. Nine people in Florida have died from the virus.

  • Miami mayor encourages public to shelter-in-place.

  • Broward schools distribute devices to facilitate remote learning for students.

  • New York City is expected to run out of medical supplies in 2 to 3 weeks, according to officials.

  • US stocks open higher.


March 19, 2020:

6:00 PM

  • Italy’s death toll has now surpassed China’s, becoming the country with the highest amount of coronavirus deaths.

  • All Miami-Dade beaches have been ordered to close.

  • Prince Albert II of Monaco has tested positive for Covid-19.

  • 643 new cases and 49 new deaths have been reported in the United Kingdom.

  • As of Thursday, March 19, 2020 the total number of Coronavirus cases worldwide has reached 227,679. There are now 328 cases of the coronavirus in Florida. Eight people in Florida have died of the disease.

  • The US now has more than 8,000 cases and close to 150 deaths.

  • 80% of COVID-19 related deaths in the US are among adults 65 and older.

  • The US government is preparing for a Coronavirus pandemic that could last up to 18 months.

  • The CDC suggests live-streaming funerals to reduce crowds during coronavirus pandemic.

  • The pandemic began in China. Today, it reported no new local infections for the first time.


March 18, 2020:

6:00 PM

  • US - Canada border to temporarily close to nonessential travel.

  • All foreclosures and evictions in the U.S. to be suspended until the end of April.

  • Senate passes coronavirus package. The Treasury department unveiled a plan for $250 billion in direct payments for Americans beginning April 6th.

  • As of Wednesday, March 18, 2020 the total number of Coronavirus cases worldwide has reached 204,832. There are now 216 cases of the coronavirus in Florida. Seven people in Florida have died of the disease.

  • The University of Miami has one person test positive for COVID-19.

  • US surgeon general warns of continuing blood shortages.

  • States are ordering people to stay home and deploying the National Guard as US cases skyrocket.


March 17, 2020:

6:00 PM

  • 1560 new cases and 17 new deaths in the United States.

  • FIU staff member has tested positive for coronavirus.

  • Florida universities will continue remote learning through the end of the Spring semester as suggested by Governor Desantis.

  • All restaurants, bars, gyms, movie theaters and bowling alleys in Miami-Dade will be closing tonight at 11pm until further notice.

  • As of Tuesday, March 17, 2020 the total number of Coronavirus cases worldwide has reached 188,388. There are now 160 cases of the coronavirus in Florida. Five people in Florida have died of the disease.

  • Florida primary still on even as other states postpone over Coronavirus.

  • Stock plunge on Wall Street, White House see recession risk.

  • AMC Theatre's close during the coronavirus pandemic.

  • Europe is experiencing “critical shortages” in medical supplies.


March 16, 2020:

7:00 PM

  • President Trump has released new guidelines for the next 15 days to slow coronavirus spread including, staying home and working from home if possible, avoiding non-essential contacts with others and non-essential travel, and keeping social gatherings to 10 people or less.

  • Canada shuts its borders to all foreign nationals except U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urges people to stay at home.

  • 3233 new cases and 349 new deaths in Italy.

  • The Hard Rock Stadium’s parking lot will be used as a COVID-19 testing center.

10:00 AM

  • As of Monday, March 16, 2020 the total number of Coronavirus cases worldwide has reached 174,134. There are now 149 cases of the coronavirus in Florida. Four people in Florida have died of the disease.

  • Coronavirus vaccine trial is said to start today with the first participant receiving an experimental dose.

  • Cruise ships return to South Florida ports as travel suspension goes into effect.

  • Nike, Urban Outfitters, and other retailers are shutting stores temporarily to prevent the virus from spreading.

  • Kennedy Space Center closes in response to Coronavirus outbreak.


March 13, 2020:

6:00 PM

  • President Trump has declared a national emergency.

  • Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Pakistan amount to other countries closing off their borders, shutting down travel.

  • 1st case confirmed in Kenya and Ethiopia.

  • 15 new cases in Florida.

  • All Miami-Dade County Public Schools will be closed starting Monday.

10:00 AM

  • As of Friday, March 13, 2020 the total number of Coronavirus cases worldwide has reached 139,005. In Florida, 15 new cases have been reported.

  • First 2 Coronavirus cases confirmed in Palm Beach County, both men in their 70s.

  • Disney World has come to a halt in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.

  • President Trump’s administration announced today it is awarding $1.3 million to two companies trying to develop rapid COVID-19 tests to detect if a person is infected with Coronavirus.

  • Stocks open sharply higher on Wall Street a day after fears about the impact of the Coronavirus led to the market’s worst fall since 1987.


March 12, 2020:

6:00 PM

  • France, Israel, Greece, and Turkey added to the list of counties closing schools down.

  • New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio states the amount of cases in the city is projected to rise to 1,000 by next week.

  • Disneyland and Disney California Adventure theme parks will be closing beginning Saturday until the end of the month.

  • 4 more cases have been announced in Florida for a total of 35.

  • Miami-Dade County Youth Fair has been postponed until further notice.

12:30 PM

  • As of Thursday, March 12, 2020 the total number of Coronavirus cases worldwide has reached 130,156. In Florida, a total of 31 cases have been reported.

  • Passengers who arrived at Palm Beach International Airport from New York test positive to Coronavirus.

  • Miami-Dade County to suspend all mass gatherings following Mayor’s orders.

  • US stocks plummet for the second day straight.

  • Major league soccer suspends games for the next 30-days.


March 11, 2020:

  • World Health Organization declares the Coronavirus outbreak as a global ‘pandemic.’

  • President Trump places a 30-day ban on travel to, and from Europe.

  • The State University System of Florida declared that all schools would transition into online learning due to the Coronavirus Pandemic

  • American Actor Tom Hanks announced that he and his wife have Coronavirus.

  • NBA suspends season until further notice after player tests positive to Coronavirus.


March 10, 2020:

  • As of Tuesday, March 10, 2020 the total number of Coronavirus cases worldwide has reached 116,399.

  • The newest additions to the list of countries affected are Panama and Magnolia.

  • 1 new case has been reported in Florida. A 60-year-old female located in Volusia County who previously traveled is now being kept isolated.
