We here at Heat’d know exactly what you are going through right now, and understand cabin fever is really starting to set in. Thankfully there is almost an unlimited amount of streaming services available with what seems like an infinite collection of shows and movies to watch.
We have comprised a list of 6 shows and movies you should watch since we all have plenty of “me time” now.
1. Community (Netflix, Hulu) 6 Seasons
Ahh “Community”, a gem in NBC’s crown, back when they were airing hit comedies such as “The Office” , “ Parks and Rec” and “30 Rock”. There was always another comedy that wasnt talked about as much but was just as good.
“Community” takes you to Greendale Community College where you meet the study group. The group consists of a gang of characters that you won't forget. The early seasons of the show display the characters and their various quirks reacting to college situations however as the show evolves the study group ends up taking on many adventures. The writers used “Community “ as a way to parody different genres such as Horror, sci fi, western and many many more.
2. The Truman Show (Netflix) (Movie)
The next recommendation we have for you is a classic 1998 movie called “The Truman Show”. The movie follows Truman (Jim Carrey), a hard worker who lives in Seahaven. Slowly we begin to see Truman's life unravel as he finds out his life is actually a TV show and he lives on a set. “The Truman Show” gives you a deep dive into the mind of a man who slowly figures out his life is a lie. Jim Carrey steals the show with his turn to insanity and increased paranoia. With great performances all the way around , superb attention to detail, and a message that will stick with you for years. I’d recommend this movie to anyone.
3. “I'm Sorry” (Netflix) 2 Seasons
Where to begin with “I’m Sorry” , to say it's a comedy centering on writer Andrea Warren as she navigates motherhood, marriage, her career and her social life in suburban L.A is correct , however does not do the show justice. “I’m Sorry” is outrageously funny and definitely a show you should not have kids around to watch. The shows protagonist , “Andrea Warren” deals with subjects not seen on other shows such as, what to do when you believe your kid is racist and having divorce fantasies about your spouse. With an all star cast of supporting characters and a third season coming out this year, now is the perfect time to start watching.
4. Outbreak (Netflix) Movie
This 1995 film is more topical now than ever. If the title and poster have not completely given it away by now. “Outbreak” is about a fictional Motaba virus that spreads in Africa and slowly into the United States. This movie really shows how far the government, military and normal people are willing to go to contain and cure the virus. The movie has an absolute star studded cast with Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman and Donald Sutherland, and co-stars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Patrick Dempsey. This thriller will keep you on edge and mentally captivated.
5. Explained (Netflix) 2 Seasons
The Youtube turned Netflix show created by Vox is exactly what you need right now. “Explained” is a super visual informative series which focuses on a different topic every episode. The striking visual style as well as the simple writing can have any stranger become an expert on a topic. “Explained” dives deep into the worlds of the stock market, k-pop, astrology, gender pay page, AI, dieting and many more. Vox’s style is creative, engaging and informative. With more seasons on the way, why not make you TV time a bit more educational while not losing any entertainment value.
6. Penny Dreadful (Netflix Hulu Showtime Sling) 3 Seasons
This show is a collaboration of timeless horror characters. Dorian Gray and Frankenstein are just a few of the personalities that come to life. As these characters' stories intertwine, you'll develop a love for this new take on the classics. Taking place in Victorian London, the story only gets darker as each episode passes. For those who have a taste for jump scares and goosebumps, this show will have you on the edge of your seat.
